Nous sommes Charlie…

Nous sommes Charlie…

I have pondered throughout this past week about whether to write a post regarding the terrorist attacks in France: The attack on the offices of Charlie Hebdo magazine which left 12 dead on Wednesday, the killing of a female police officer the following day, and the attack on a Kosher supermarket in which four more died. There are so many other political and news sites who could do it justice better than I, and there are other bloggers who … [Read more...]

A Year in Travel: 2014

2014 marked a fun year in the amount of traveling I was blessed to have the opportunity to do. Some were places I had been before, while some were brand new. The mix of the familiar favorites with new adventures made for a most wonderful year. Here's  a little summary of where the wind blew me in 2014... San Francisco, CA The Fairmont~Napa Valley Wine Train~Chinatown~Fisherman's Wharf~Golden Gate Bridge~Sausalito~The Trident~Robert Mondavi … [Read more...]

Stories mid-adventure…

October 25, 2014 by Katie 2 Comments

"So far, we have driven over 1600 miles through France, Italy, Monaco and Spain, with kids, and the awesomeness can't be underrated. Even if Brooke (age 4) did throw up once in the rental car..."  On the 15th of this month, I left for a new adventure, excited for a blend of the familiar and the new.  I'm still on this amazing adventure but we are having a lazy day today and I actually have wifi so I was happy to have a … [Read more...]

(Time) Travel Tuesday: The Royal Wedding Trip

October 14, 2014 by Katie Leave a Comment

In 2011, we decided to take a trip to England. Then we thought, why not coordinate our trip dates with that of the Royal Wedding between Prince William, Duke of Cambridge, and Kate Middleton which was taking place on April 29,2011 at Westminster Abbey.    The day of the royal wedding--waiting at Buckingham Palace with so many other people--along with viewing Westminster Abbey the day after, were definite highlights of that particular trip, but … [Read more...]

Travel Tuesday: The Napa Valley Wine Train

July 29, 2014 by Katie Leave a Comment

One of the things that had been on my "bucket list" for awhile was a trip on the Napa Valley Wine Train in Napa Valley, California, and in May, Darcy and I finally booked our passage. We were on a short holiday in San Francisco and took a day trip down to Napa to enjoy this special tour. Leaving from the Fairmont downtown, it was a pleasant 90 minute drive to McKinstry Street Station in Napa where it departs from.  Their website … [Read more...]

Travel Tuesdays: California Adventures (LA, Santa Barbara and Solvang)

July 15, 2014 by Katie Leave a Comment

California holds a special place in my heart. I lived there from 1997 to 2002, holding residence in both the Northern end of the state, near the Oregon border, and also in Los Angeles while I worked as a Speech Pathologist at Children's Hospital Los Angeles.  It is where I was living when I met Darcy, where we courted, and though we didn't get married there (we were married in Scotland), we were living there still when we had … [Read more...]

Travel Tuesday: 4 Tips–What to do if you are injured while traveling

July 1, 2014 by Katie Leave a Comment

Do you know what to do if you become injured when traveling?  Today I'm sharing some tips from personal injury Attorney Richard Levin of the Levin, Riback Law Group on how to protect yourself if you get injured while you are on holiday. Vacation is a time to kick up one’s feet and relax- but if an unforeseen event dampers your getaway, it is important to be prepared. “"All too often people don’t want to deal with the headache of … [Read more...]
