French colours song (The Rainbow song)

Recently, I wrote a post about learning colors in French. Here is a fun song, Arc-en-ciel, (or Rainbow in English)  that incorporates the colors. See how many of the color vocabulary from last time you can pick out in the lyric. I’ve included both the French and English lyrics below so this is a great way to help yourself or your kids practice colors, other vocabulary and pronunciation.  Warning: This song is super fun and will get stuck in your head!

(Here are the French lyrics with English translation):
Arc-en-ciel
© 2006 Alain Le Lait
Il a les yeux rouges                              he has red eyes
Il a les yeux jaunes                              he has yellow eyes
Il a les yeux arc-en-ciel                        he has wooden eyes
Et une tête en bois                               and a rainbow head
Il boit du chocolat                                 he drinks hot chocolate
À tous les repas                                   at every meal
Comme les poissons-chats                  like the catfish
Cha la la la la                                       Cha la la la la
Il a les yeux verts                                 he has green eyes
Il a les yeux gris                                   he has gray eyes
Il a les yeux arc-en-ciel                        he has rainbow eyes
Et une tête en bois                               and a wooden head
Il boit du jus de citron                          he drinks lemon
Et de champignons                             and mushroom juice
Comme Napoléon                               like Napoléon
On on on on on                                   On on on on on
Il a les yeux blancs                              he has white eyes
Il a les yeux noirs                                he has black eyes
Il a les yeux arc-en-ciel                       he has rainbow eyes
Et une tête en bois                              and a wooden head
Il boit la noix de coco                          he drinks the coconut
Avant de faire dodo                            before going to sleep
Do ré mi la si do                                 Do ré mi la si do
O o o o o                                            Ooooo
Il a les yeux rouges                             He has red eyes
Il a les yeux jaunes                             He has yellow eyes
Il a les yeux arc-en-ciel                       He has rainbow eyes
Et une tête en bois                              and a wooden head
Il boit du café au lait                            He drinks coffee with milk
Au lait, au lait, au lait                           with milk, with milk, with milk,
Et quand il a fini                                  and when he is done
Il se met au lit                                      He puts himself to bed
i i i i i                                                    i i i i i
o o o o o                                              o o o o o
Cha la la la la                                      Cha la la la la

My daughter does love this song and I always get it stuck in my head the whole day after we sing it, but it does make me happy so I guess that is not a bad thing! Thanks for coming by, Katie
