Travel Tuesday: The Button Shop of Montmartre: Dam Boutons

My last trip to Paris I had a couple of areas I had my heart set on seeing that I had not gotten to in previous trips: The Marais and Montmartre. Our day in Montmartre was fabulous; what started as a very cold and wet day turned sunny and warmer though we were having such a good time we would not have noticed either way. We started at the Sacré-Coeur Basilica and from there I was set on finding the button shop of Montmartre, Dam Boutons.

Luckily, we did not walk far when we ran across this wonderful little shop. For someone like  me, who loves to craft, owns two sewing machines, and never met a fabric or embellishment she didn’t like, I was in Heaven. Buttons are arranged in tubes, sorted by color family, and are offered in all price ranges. I found myself drawn to several cameo buttons they offered.

You can see from the photo above the buttons are stored in tubes. When you see one you like, pull out the tube, and the clerk will get the button for you. Browsers are welcome. If you want to take pictures, you must ask first. If you are purchasing buttons, your chances of getting a yes to that request improve exponentially.

I found these to take home. I’ve always been fond of cameos (I owe my love of cameos to my Mother).

While the lizard is a mascot of such, I was more entranced by the sweetest little dog who sat at the doorway, perfectly behaved, and never wavered from his post.

Speaking of good behavior, if you have children with you, they must be well behaved and understand the do not touch rule or they will be asked to wait outside. Also, if you are learning French, be prepared to have the shop owner help you with any mistakes you make.
